STARLITES NAXXAR BC on an ERASMUS project in Münster
Six Starlites BC coaches, working across the various cadette and junior categories, will be travelling to Münster this week (from the 18th to the 23rd of May) for an intensive six-day coaching experience made possible through Erasmus.
This project brings together Starlites Naxxar Basketball Club – a club with a renowned reputation in holistic youth development – and one of the strongest youth basketball academies in Germany: Uni Baskets Münster. It was designed by Uni Baskets Münster’s head coach Mr. Felix Engel, in coordination with the President of Starlites BC, Dr Ivan Riolo, with professional development and the upskilling of coaches at its heart.
What the Coaches Will Be Doing
Throughout the six days, the coaches will be immersed in a full programme that includes:
- Coach shadowing, working directly alongside coaches from Uni Baskets Münster
- Observing coaching sessions across different levels and categories
- Active participation in coaching clinics and practices
- Theoretical analysis of coaching frameworks and methodologies
- Networking with German basketball professionals
- Reflective discussions on basketball development
The Goal of This Project
The target is twofold: to further develop coaching standards at club level, and to carry this learning outward into the broader Maltese basketball community. As part of the project’s completion, coaches will reflect on the practices and frameworks observed – identifying what could be adapted and introduced within local youth basketball set-ups, both at club and potentially at National level.
We very much look forward to this learning experience and to implementing innovative coaching methodologies upon our return.
Such developmental opportunities could not be possible without the support of Erasmus. This project is the first of its kind to be won locally within the Maltese basketball community – and the intentions of Starlites Naxxar BC are to seek further opportunities to advance the growth and upskilling of local coaches.
