STARLITES NAXXAR BC on an ERASMUS project in Munster

A total of six basketball coaches coaching across the various cadette and junior categories within Starlites Naxxar BC will be actively engaged on an Erasmus project between the 18th and the 23rd of May.

This Erasmus project brings together Starlites Naxxar Basketball Club – a club with a renowned reputation in holistic youth development – together with one of the strongest Youth basketball academies in Germany: Uni Baskets Münster.

This project was designed by Uni Baskets Münster’s head coach Mr. Felix Engel, in coordination with the President of Starlites BC, Dr Ivan Riolo, and has at its heart the professional development and upskilling of coaches.

What the Coaches Will Be Doing

During this project, the six coaches will be involved in:

  • Coach shadowing, working alongside coaches from Uni Baskets Münster
  • Observing coaching sessions at different levels and categories
  • Taking an active part in coaching clinics
  • Networking with German basketball professionals
  • Engaging in discussions and reflective exchanges on basketball development

The Goal of This Project

The target of this project is twofold: to further develop the levels of coaching by upskilling coaches at club level, and to extend this learning outward towards the Maltese basketball community.

As part of the project’s completion, coaches will reflect on practices and frameworks which could potentially be adapted and introduced within local youth basketball development set-ups – both at club level and potentially at National level.

Such developmental opportunities could not be possible without the support of Erasmus. This project is the first one of its kind to be won locally within the basketball community. The intentions of Starlites Naxxar BC are to seek further opportunities to advance the growth and upskilling of local coaches.
